Poipu Road Construction Information
If you're planning a trip to Kauai don't worry about the Poipu construction. Instead, arm yourself with a little knowledge on construction in the Poipu Beach area so you can appreciate your Hawaiian dream vacation to its fullest. Poipu invites you to the idyllic south shore of the garden island of Kuai where officials carefully planned all road construction to avoid delays, noise and dust.
Though road construction often causes delays and the associated noise can deliver an annoying headache, Poipu road construction is easy to circumvent allowing you to maintain the perfect Hawaiian vacation head space.

Funded by the Kukuiula Development Company as part of its re-zoning requirements for future development near the intersection of Poipu and Lawai Road, the first phase of roadway improvements, started in Spring 2007. All improvements will be complete by April 2008. Work hours for the project are 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
During the Poipu construction, detours and a temporary road will accommodate traffic to Koloa, Poipu and Kukuiula. All detours are clearly marked and appropriate traffic control devices and flag men are in place. No lane closures are anticipated during the Poipu construction project, although periodic, brief (one minute or less) stoppage of traffic may be necessary to allow for movement of construction vehicles. Motorists are advised to anticipate the briefest of delays.
