Lower Lookout on Waimea Canyon Drive
Waimea Canyon is a natural wonder for which there is no simple explanation. Often described as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," it is neither as big or as old as its Arizona cousin, but it is unique. Nowhere in Hawaii will you encounter anything close to this geological wonder. The canyon is 10 miles long, 1 mile wide and more than 3,600 feet deep. Created from layers of lava flow, it changes color as clouds drift in and out of the gorge, sometimes disappearing entirely in the mist.
