West Kauai Technology and Visitor Center

The West Kauai Technology & Visitor Center in Waimea is a good place to get a handle on the island's west side. The center is representative of the far-flung mix that gives definition to the tiny communities that co-mingle with the military base situated on this end of the island. With the Pacific Missile Range Facility and a growing number of high-tech companies, it is taking its place as the high technology hub of the island. Here, too, one of Hawaii's two remaining sugar plantations thrives. Add to the mix its stunning natural beauty, which has long attracted millions of visitors to places like Waimea Canyon and the Kalalau Lookout.
